Specialised Care for Children
Dr O’Mahony is a Specialist Paediatric Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. She has undertaken additional years of training to perform complex paediatric reconstructive surgery and has a particular interest and expertise in cleft lip and palate surgery and ear surgery.
Our approach to paediatric care
Dr O’Mahony looks after children from birth to maturity with a wide range of both simple and complex conditions. She particularly enjoys her paediatric practice, working with children and their families to facilitate a well-informed, supported and child-friendly experience around their reconstructive surgery.
She understands that when your child needs surgery, it can be an anxious time for the whole family. Dr O’Mahony takes the time to ensure both children and parents feel comfortable, informed, and supported throughout the entire process.
Dr O’Mahony has particular expertise in the treatment of cleft lip and palate, one of the most common congenital conditions. She works as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care from infancy through to adulthood, ensuring the best possible outcomes for children and their families.
Prominent ears, sometimes known as ‘bat ears’, are a relatively common problem that can sometimes lead to teasing and self-consciousness in childhood or adulthood. Otoplasty is the operation undertaken to correct prominent ears and can be very beneficial for certain patients.
Hospital appointments
Dr O’Mahony has a Public Hospital appointment as a Consultant Plastic & Reconstructive and Craniofacial Surgeon at the Queensland Children’s Hospital, Brisbane, where she provides care for children with complex conditions.
She also operates at Mater Children’s Private Hospital, South Brisbane for private patients.
Working with families
Dr O’Mahony understands that paediatric surgery involves the whole family. She takes the time to:
– Explain procedures in terms that both children and parents can understand
– Address concerns and answer questions thoroughly
– Ensure families feel supported throughout the process
– Work collaboratively with other specialists when needed
For more complex conditions, Dr O’Mahony works as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring comprehensive, coordinated care for your child.
