What is a medial thigh lift?

The operation removes loose skin from the inner thigh and lifts the remaining skin. For a smaller amount of excess, the scar can sit in the groin crease. If there is looseness further down the thigh, the scar also runs along the inner thigh.

Dr O’Mahony will show you which pattern would be needed in your case.

This procedure may be suitable if excess skin of the inner thighs is causing discomfort, rashes, or difficulty with clothes and activity, your weight is stable, and you are in good general health.

It is not a weight-loss operation. Dr O’Mahony does not recommend this surgery for people who smoke, because the inner thigh is prone to problems with wound healing.

Surgery is performed under general anaesthetic in hospital. The scar pattern depends on how much skin needs to be removed and how far down the thigh the looseness extends.

Dr O’Mahony will explain the operation, the scars, and the limits of what a thigh lift can achieve before you proceed.

The inner thighs need care while they heal. Walking is encouraged, but wide leg movements, exercise, and anything that pulls on the groin wounds are limited at first.

Dr O’Mahony will give you instructions for dressings, hygiene, and when you can return to work and exercise.

Whether Medicare or your health fund contributes depends on your circumstances and on whether the surgery is considered medically necessary. Cosmetic surgery is not rebated.

After your consultation, Dr O’Mahony’s office will provide a written quote, including any relevant Medicare item numbers.
